Maximizing Vegas: The $20 Trick

Vegas can be expensive if not done the right way. Your room expense alone can easily be $500+ a night for even a basic room. What if we told you that for $20 you could easily get a free upgrade to a premium room or suite? Follow this trick and we promise you won’t be disappointed.

Most casino hotels (and hotels in general) leave the final room type you receive up to the staff that checks you in at the hotel lobby. This means that there’s a lot of flexibility when it comes to getting a room better than what you paid. Here’s what to do:

1. Before you walk into the lobby, take a $20 bill and sandwich it between your ID & credit card.

It may look a little odd, but trust us…it works.

2. When you approach the check-in counter, smile and let them know your name. Then, when you hand them your ID & credit card (with the $20 bill slightly showing), casually ask if there are any complimentary upgrades available. Trust us…we know this sounds a little awkward, but it’s a very common occurrence in the hotel scene. Remember: Vegas runs on tips.

3. The hotel staff will then see the $20 bill, set it to the side and then try to find you an upgrade. If there’s availability and they let you know that there is indeed an upgrade available, you’ve done it! In the rare chance there’s not a better room available, they will hand your $20 back in the same way you handed it to over.

4. Enjoy the upgraded room!
